I personally use Opera and found it much faster and reasonably safe and uses less resources. Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3 are both pretty good right now. Opera and IE7 have similar start up rates from my experience, and Firefox 3 is a bit noticably slower. There is another internet browser called Maxthon and it is pretty good, has almost all the features of every browser. I'd say better than Opera in terms of functions, but unfortunately no Linux support yet. But give each a try!

I'm pretty good at securing my identity online. However I used to not be so good at securing my paper documents. I did not realize how important it was to properly dispose of papers with personal information on them until one of my friend had their identity stolen. Now I have a commercial paper shredder and I can sleep a lot better at night knowing that I have a new defense against the identity thieves.

I recently had a lady sitting next to me at SFO ask me if I knew anything about computers.
When I said yes, she explained she could not access the Internet. I asked what service she was using, she said whatever was available. I asked what AntiVirus, AntiSpyware and Firewall settings she had set up.
You guessed the answer already. The AV had expired 4 months ago, it came with the Dell.
I gave her a quick class on security. I wonder if it took.

The average Joe Sixpack usually doesn't realize how vulberable their passwords can be. Some people even use the 1 password for all their internet needs!

I work for Passpack which is an online password manager. Passpack generates and stores your passwords in a sort of 'online vault' and makes it easy to log into accounts from whatever computer you are at - without worrying about your passwords being compromised.

here's a quick link to a post about password managers and how they can protect you:
