Review of Anti-Spyware and Removal Guides (www.spywarenews.org) – In the current trend, almost everything needs the use of online services as well as computers. When one goes online without any protection, certain tracking devices and cookies automatically installs itself on your computer. And most likely, there is that big possibility that your own computer is prone to get infected with spywares that has no good intentions. It can destroy your files and annoy you with the higher levels of infection that it reaches from time to time.

Spyware and malware has been one of the worst troubles faced by one’s computer units affecting one’s jobs as well as businesses dependent on the use of their PCs. This can be observed when you see browser home pages you never set yourself and numerous pop ups you don’t expect at all. Your personal information is being tracked by others, or others are able to access your internet behavior; more threatening actions like your keystrokes being identified giving them chances to obtain your password. When these happens then you might have been infected by these so-called spywares and your computer might be at risk.

Just like diseases, there are cures invented to prevent these spywares from entering you computers in the future as well as to heal your computer once it already got infected. These cures are known as Spyware removal software, created to detect and take away the unpleasant spyware files, applications and software that try to destroy your PC.

Spyware Prevention and Tips

Prevention before infection is still the most preferred way to protect yourself and your computer from spywares. There are a variety of software found in the online market that are readily available for installation to stop spywares from going through your PC. Anit-spyware programs such as Stopzilla, Spy Sweeper, and CounterSpy are some of the powerful software that can help in blocking spywares.

When downloading anti-spyware software, be warned of the software, games, videos, or music offered for free because they might contain viruses that may ruin your PCs security. Check first the authenticity and privacy policies of the site.

In installing an anti-spyware to your personal computer, consider a consumer- friendly software. By this, we mean the ease of the product’s use. Its installation is not difficult even without using a manual or the help of a technician. The instructions are easy to comprehend and the features needed are found immediately. Remember also the compatibility of the software you are about to install to the specifications of your computer system. Incompatibility may cause either the effectiveness of the software downloaded to fall down or the performance of the computer system to slow down.

The application must also detect, and efficiently remove the spywares, malwares and all the harmful crawlers in your computer as well as prevent them from coming back after removal. Also check the scan performances of the computer when the software was installed. The full scan should be finished in a short span of time and the computer can still be utilized to its potential even after the scanning activity.

Aside from taking care of someone’s privacy, the right anti-spyware for your computer is the solution to stop the displeasures and troubles the spywares are causing.

Companies continue to test and rank antivirus programs. The three programs which always take their turns at the top are AVG, Avira and Avast. These antivirus programs are not only free to use but also promise high end scanning capabilities and destroy thousands of computer viruses. But of course, you wouldn’t want to clutter your PC with antivirus programs which could do pretty much everything as the other programs. In the battle avira vs avg vs avast, which one is the best? This review summarizes some of the interesting advantages and disadvantages of each of the three antivirus programs.

Avast

When you are trying to look for a stable, effective, and well-supported antivirus program, Avast is the right choice. Avast boasts of its frequent and fast updates whose cleaning features are the same as the Pro, which is its paid counterpart. Avast is also highly configurable which enables smooth operation. Many use Avast for its antirootkit and antispyware feature. When it comes to scanning your emails for viruses, Avast is the top pick. It has an internet mail shield which allows scanning of your emails from malicious sources.

However, Avast detects Trojans weakly. It could not delete, repair, or move to chest some of its Trojan detections. Other antimalware programs must be installed in coordination with the program to upgrade protection against Trojan. The latest Avast has also become bloated with many added features that could cause your PC to slow down.

…First, while it’s true that they share the same cleaning features, avast! Pro Antivirus is not the “paid counterpart” for avast! Free Antivirus — they are different products, with Pro Antivirus 5.0 offering also a virtualization sandbox (an AutoSandbox will be included also in the Free Antivirus version of our upcoming 6.0 series, but Pro Antivirus will always have additional features that do not come with Free Antivirus)….Jason Mashak

Avira

On a recent testing of antivirus programs, Avira ranked first for its high detection capability among other free antivirus programs despite its slow update. Avira has 90%+ detection rate in contrast to AVG and Avast whose rate barely made it to 80%. In addition to viruses, it also detects Trojans, malwares and rootkits. This feature is brought about by the use of a heuristic detection technology. This technology, which is unique to Avira, allows the program to detect viruses with the same malicious code, thus it doesn’t have to rely only on its virus definition database.

However, Avira does not scan emails. A paid upgraded version or other threat detection programs must be installed to get the feature.

AVG

AVG is perhaps the most user friendly free antivirus program. It allows you to specifically scan a file or the system when needed. Its update schedule can also be set according to what suits you better. Its email scanner allows you to scan emails in Outlook and Incredimail. In addition, it also has a link scanner, and a web and resident shield.

The downside is that AVG generates a huge amount of false positive detections. Its seemingly unwanted sensitivity can delete even those innocent and useful installers and programs without asking permission first. It also only detects viruses and basic spyware. A heuristic detection technology and an antispyware program such as Threatfire will have to be installed for additional protection.

Conclusion
Generally, no antivirus program is 100% perfect in terms of protection. It would take a lot of exposure to malicious insults before anyone could tell which one is better, especially that the viruses themselves continue to evolve and become more sophisticated. It’s also up to the consumer which suits him best.

A good protection plan is to have one antivirus program, a good anti spyware and shield, and a keyscrambler. Don’t use two antivirus programs in your computer. To be safer, use a lot of common sense. Have a back-up plan to be sure. Also avoid links or emails from unknown sources.

Over-all, Avira takes the credit. Though it updates slowly, it has a very good detection rate which is the very sense of having an antivirus program in your PC.

Has your computer been infected with viruses, spyware, adware, or any other forms of malware? After the infection, have you noted that certain files are missing from your Windows environment? Are you unsure where to turn next? If this is the case then it is time to turn to a little data recovery – to get those deleted files back.

In all honesty, most spyware and other forms of malware are simply a nuisance; they bog down your CPU and create constant pop-up ads; however, rarely do they do something as malicious as delete computer files. Yet, there are the occasionally severe infections which do just that. And when this does happen you will need to take one of two different paths (assuming you didn’t take the time to back up your data on a regular basis – which is always the preferable solution to any of these problems).

The first option you have is to send your computer into to a data recovery shop. In this situation, professionals will take a look at your computer and attempt to retrieve whatever files you may have lost. This is truly the best option; however, it can become quite expensive and take quite a bit of time to complete (as you have to send your PC in and wait for them to get it back to you).

The second option you have is to partake in a little bit of do-it-yourself data recovery. In this situation you download a free, fairly easy to use, program from the Internet and attempt to recover those lost files. There are a whole host of options out there; however Recuva and Mini Tool Power Data Recovery, are two of the better options out there. Simply head over to their sites and read their documentation to get a rough idea how to use them.

Before we finish, it is important to remind you that recovering your data is useless if done before your computer is completely void of viruses and other forms of malware. Therefore, make sure to clean your computer of any and all infections (using programs such as Avast, Antivir, MalwareBytes, and the like) before attempting to bring back your files. Furthermore, if you happen to run into these problems try to learn from your mistakes. In the future, always make sure to back up your data on a regular basis. This will prevent needless computing frustration in the future.

Keith hosts Data Recovery Toronto. On it he talks about a variety of computing topics including hard drive recovery Toronto.

Employee Monitoring Software, sometime known as Key Logger software is an application that monitors the activities carried out by employees using the company computers. The program can be installed in the main server only while some other monitoring software will need that they be installed in every machine. This programs record anything that happens in the company computers and stores them so that they can be viewed latter, therefore allowing the employer or manager keep an eye on the workers.

Some people may raise questions regarding how ethical the practice of monitoring employees is. Well, first, the computers which the employees work with are the company’s property and the company owners have a right to really know what their assets are used for. All the employer has to do is notify the employees from the very first time they report for work that they’ll be monitored using an Employee Monitoring Software. It should also be remembered that there’s no law that prevents employers from monitoring there staff.

Improving Company Productivity: The Benefits of Keylogger Software

There are many legitimate and practical reasons that warrant the use of Employee Monitoring Software. The primary reason, perhaps, is to make sure that all the staff are doing what they’re paid to do and spend all of the company time in productive activities. Some employees will just go out of their way and start browsing the internet, chatting with friends or visiting other websites unrelated to the business. As a manager, it would be challenging to establish what the employees are doing by just looking at them.

When employees visit some given sites while using company computers, it puts the organization vulnerable to being infected by malicious programs. Some programs are capable of recording and transmitting data from the user’s computer. Should this happen, there is the possibility that the company’s important and confidential information may reach malicious people and cause harm to the company.

Not all employees are honest and some of the information that leaks out of the company may be passed out by the employees while using company computers. To be safe from such malicious employees, the obvious way to go would be to use the Employee Monitoring Software to help you know who is doing what. Additionally, when employees understand that they are being watched, they will refrain from such activities.

Some Employee Monitoring Software have features which could enable the network administrator to lock the computers in the company from being able to view specific websites. By doing this, the employer can be sure that the websites that the employees visit are the authorized ones only. Additionally , it makes it possible to only allow websites that are business related and beneficial to the running of the company.

The battle of the web browsers has already begun. With Google and Microsoft racing neck to neck for smart internet users who want good, significant results fast, improvements have been made with the new versions of Google and Internet Explorer. So which one should you use?

Some of the advantages of using Google Chrome over Internet Explorer are its speed, simplicity and security. Without add-ons or plug-ins and unnecessary advertisements, Google Chrome is fast and reliable, and at times, you may even say that it is quite impatient. You will have to reload the page after a couple of seconds because Chrome gives up when loading takes too long. Other than that it’s really fast and you get the results you want in a heartbeat.

Google Chrome is simple and that’s what makes it easy to use. It looks sleek and classy, and designed in such a way that frames for web results get the most space. Tabs are placed conveniently with pretty much the same features you get from Firefox.

Finally, you would not be bothered with security issues with Chrome, because it indeed promotes safe web surfing, making use of what is called sandboxing which allows it to make a distinction between internet commands and operations and other computer data applications, so that hackers would not find it easy to put in spyware into your computer.

The ultimate decision on whether you should use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer depends on your own preferences. Basically, Internet Explorer is for that person who’s out looking for more customization options in his web browser – the kind that web developers and computer-savvy fellows would actually enjoy using. On the other hand, Google Chrome is the simple, fast and results-focused web browser that users tired from ad bombarded and plug-in dominated browsers could ever need or want.

What is Private Browsing?

Every now and then most of us have to use a public computer to complete some work. It might be using a friend, library or office computer. Sometime we need private browsing if we intend to surprise our spouse like buying a gift or planning a holiday. Private browsing will act as an invisible mode without leaving behind traces of your work.

By default, an internet browser stores information and data on the computer. Anybody with sane knowledge can easily access your confidential information using the cache. You might invite a lot more problem should you unknowingly click “Remember my password” option during your work.

The main benefit of private browsing is that it helps prevent information from being gathered in the browser during the time the stealth mode is on. This is ideal for carrying out a little under-the-radar browsing on the computer.

Here is how you can surf privately in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chromes using their inbuilt private browsing options without any traces.

Google Chrome Incognito

Click the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.

For Mac users: If you can’t see the wrench icon, go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click File.

Select New incognito window.

If you want to open a specific link in an incognito window, right-click (or control-click on a Mac) the link and select Open link in incognito window.

Using Keyboard shortcut
” Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows and Linux) and ?-Shift-N (Mac) to open an incognito window.

Internet Explorer Inprivate

Click on ‘Tools’ menu and selecting ‘InPrivate Browsing’ to switch to private browsing in Internet Explorer. Press Alt key if you can’t see the menu.

Using Keyboard shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + P

Firefox Private Browsing

Firefox also added a private browsing feature with version 3.5 and later.

Click ‘Tools’ > ‘Start Private Browsing’ for Firefox. Return to normal surfing mode, click ‘Tools’ > ‘Stop Private Browsing’.

Keyboard Shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + P

Although surfing around in private mode prevents internet browser from keeping information regarding those sites you’ve visited. Web sites you visit may still have records of your visit. Files saved to your computer will still remain on your computer and your boss might still capable to keep track of the website you’ve visited. Private mode merely made a person checking out “where you have been visiting” on the pc can’t see where you have been.

Computer viruses and spyware have become common place as more and more computers connect and communicate with one another. However, not all viruses and spyware are alike. Some are benign; they hide in the background and are nothing more than a minor nuisance. Others are malignant; they create all sorts of problems, everything from freezing your machine to deleting files. Now, what happens if you run into a bunch of the really bad guys? You know, the one’s which immediately inundate your computer with pop-up advertisements once you login. Or the programs which grind your computer to a halt, so much so that you are unable to load, let alone run, your favorite anti-malware package.

One of the best ways, we at Computer Repair Calgary have found, to deal with a computer which has become inundated with computer infections is to boot it into safe mode and then proceed to run several anti-malware applications (such as Avira Antivir, Avast, Superantispyware, or MalwareBytes).

Many computer knowledgeable people are aware of Windows safe mode. For those who are not, safe mode is a special Windows environment in which only basic drivers and software applications are loaded. One of the key features of it is that startup programs (those that are supposed to load and run automatically upon login) are disabled. Consequently, viruses and other malicious code which were configured to run automatically can no longer do so. As a result, when booting in to safe mode, you will often find significantly fewer problems. This does not mean that these problems do not still exist. All it means is that you are now free to download, install, and run a number of anti-malware software (without having to deal with a bogged down machine).

This is great, you may be thinking. But how do I get into “safe mode”? All you need to do is restart you machine and then hit the F8 key as your computer loads up (before you see the Windows logo). If you have completed the procedure correctly you will notice the words “safe mode” in the corners of your screen. If not, you will have to restart and try the procedure again.

There you have it, if you ever come across a situation in which your computer is unusable due to a virus, simply boot it into safe mode and run your normal suite of removal products. It may not be a silver bullet cure; however, it will make the job a little bit easier to deal with.

Keith writes at Computer Repair Calgary on a variety of computer-related themes. One such theme is: how to deal with faulty RAM.

Learn what a trojan horse is and how to prevent yourself from getting one.

So what exactly is a trojan horse? A giant wooden horse made to fill with warriors who are set to jump out once they have breached the walls of an enemies city! No, not that kind of trojan horse.

A trojan horse is simply a computer program that claims to do one thing, but instead does damage when you execute it. These programs can come in any form. It could be a video game, an anti virus program, or even just a photo. They are set up to initiate once you have double clicked them. Trojans can only cause harm if you have executed them. They have no way to replicate themselves automatically.

Some people will exclaim that they have gotten a trojan horse from someone! But the reality is that if you have a trojan on your computer, it is because you have opened a file that included the trojan.

What Can A Trojan Horse Do?

A trojan can do anything from allowing a hacker to control every aspect of your computer. They can move your mouse before your eyes, or open your rom right in front of you as if you had done it yourself. They can also completely erase your hard drive, or implant more malicious information onto your computer. If you computer contains sensitive materials, a trojan will be your worst nightmare as anything saved to your hard drive will become available to the hacker who is using the trojan horse.

The best way to avoid a trojan horse is the same as avoiding a virus. Never open anything that hasn’t been virus scanned first. But it is important to also remember that not all trojans can be found through a virus scanner. Be sure to download a trojan cleaner and occasionally run it on your computer to be sure of the safety of your files and programs.

Social networking sites have allowed us to stay in touch with our loved ones and even chat with celebrities if you get lucky once in a while. Many of you must have heard of the most used social networking site, Twitter. Many of you may even have accounts in Twitter, but did you know that your account and information is at grave risk. That’s right if you are careless your account can be easily hacked into.

Ways to protect yourself from Twitter virus and malware

Don’t disclose too much: For example if a stranger comes up to you and asks you where you live, your most likely answer would be either the state name or just the city name. You wouldn’t even tell your locality name, it’s the same here don’t disclose your personal details to anyone here. When you don’t know someone keep far as possible. He/she might just be a hacker waiting to attack your account.

Lose privacy: Similar to Face book, Twitter also has the same problem, you don’t have much privacy. Did you know when though you are free of malware and your friend has malware you too stand a chance of getting affected. This is exactly how hackers hack from one account to the other through our friends and family and use their accounts to gather your information.

I would recommend you don’t put up too much of information of yourself on your account as that is the best way to reduce your chances in getting affected by malware.

Avoid retweeting: Try to avoid retweeting as you need to always check a link before sending it. Usually this a very common way of getting spam attacks that depend on blind retweeting to gather more users into the scam.

Don’t click on unknown links: This is especially for you guys. How many of you have fallen for this one. This is a very old method of laying a trap for you guys by posting a picture of a beautiful girl with a link below and you guys of course immediately click on that link only to get infected with malware. If at all you don’t know that person, then it is best to avoid their links or encouraging them to send messages.

So friends, I hope you can stay safe by following the above methods.

Unfortunately for any computer user viruses and Spyware are a common problem. The worst part is that most people are not aware of some things that may install Spyware or other malicious items onto their computers. Most people wrongly assume that they have to download something or open themselves up to a vulnerability manually. This is not always true.

How Do I Keep Getting Spyware?

Actually, one of the main ways that hackers have found is the easiest to use to get PC users to execute their malicious software is through emails. All of those inspirational or chain emails can be the biggest source of problems for some users who do not even frequent sites that may contain Spyware or viruses.
All of those nice inspirational emails can have malicious coding embedded that may cause security vulnerabilities within your computer. Clicking links that you are unsure of inside emails is also a great way to install Spyware on your system.

Most people who regularly use computers for personal or business related activities are aware of the dangers of the internet and the possibility of getting Spyware of viruses. However, most think that in order to get them, you have to execute a program. This is entirely untrue.

Delete Those Emails Before You Open Them!

Whatever the title and whomever it has come from does not matter. Always keep in mind that others may not know the dangers of simple emails or links as well. The best way to deal with emails from unfamiliar sources or emails that contain inspirational or chain letter type messages is to delete them as soon as possible. Do not open them ever!
